Committees

Each of the following committees has a Chair (appointed by the President) and supported by specified officers and/or additional members to assist with the responsibilities and outcomes of the committee. To get in touch with a committee chair, contact us

Conference & Program Planning

Includes a Chair or two Co-Chairs (appointed by the President) and any additional members willing to participate. This committee meets as deemed by the Chair(s)(usually monthly throughout the year, then possibly bi-/weekly as the conference nears).

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, development and coordination of the annual NAASS conference.
  • Works closely with the NAASS event planner to facilitate the onsite review/analysis to ensure the venue will support the event.
  • The intent is for the Chair to manage the programming aspects of the conference (keynote, plenary sessions, etc.) and the event planner will manage logistics (venue, meals, excursions, website updates, registration, AV equip., room setup, contract negotiations, etc.

Creative & Innovative Awards

Includes a Chair (appointed by the President) and any additional members willing to participate.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Promotion to NAASS members for award submissions.
  • Evaluation of annual award submissions to recognize member schools that offer creative and innovative programs.
  • Assists NAASS to highlight the importance of curriculum development, give credit to summer session programs that make outstanding contributions to the management, operation and marketing of summer session and to provide a forum for members to learn from each other.
  • Program award categories include: management, operation and marketing

2023-24 Committee Chair: Christina Wan


Membership & Communication 

Includes a Vice President of Membership and Communication (VPMC) along with any additional members willing to participate. This committee meets as deemed by the VPMC (usually monthly, or more in support of project workloads). This committee also works closely with the Conference & Program Planning Chair to coordinate marketing efforts for the Annual Conference.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees and maintains membership database, including correspondence for the renewal and initiation of NAASS memberships in the categories of:
    • Institutional members (colleges/universities)
    • Professional members
    • Affiliated/Retired members
  • Conducts outreach, correspondence, and processes to attract new/perspective NAASS memberships.
  • Liaises with other organizations related to summer and special sessions, as well as those in higher education with relevant missions, to promote NAASS and develop collaborations as well as initiate new and maintain existing affiliated relationships.
  • Oversees Development, Planning, research and development of content, delivery to members, and updates of:
    • The NAASS Beat (monthly e-Newsletter)
    • NAASS Webinars
    • NAASS Website (updates/layout)
    • NAASS Social Media
    • NAAS Print Materials, signage, and other marketing pieces
  • Maintains historical records and other documentation as appropriate for the association and its activities.
  • In coordination with the Executive Committee and Administrative Council, produces an annual report

Nominations & Elections

Includes a Chair (the Past-President) and the five Regional Vice-Presidents assist the Past-President with the responsibilities of this committee. This committee meets as deemed by the Chair.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • As per the NAASS Bylaws, solicit nominations for all upcoming elected/non-elected positions within NAASS leadership
  • Assist with the elections process (where applicable) and the processing of submissions for the following awards:
    • Distinguished Service Award
    • Honorary Life Member Award

Includes two Co-Chairs (appointed by the President) and any additional members willing to participate. This committee meets as deemed by the Co-Chair(s) (usually quarterly or more, depending on project workload).
