Summer Sessions

UCSB, 90 miles up the coast from Los Angeles, is bounded on two sides by beaches, with mountains hovering to the north. The university has a smart, imaginative and diverse student body of 18,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduate students and a rich intellectual life led by 1,085 faculty, teaching in more than 200 majors, degrees, and credential programs.

Summer Sessions, operating with ten staff, enrolls approximately 9000 students in more than 700 courses during 7 concurrent or sequential summer sessions. The majority of courses support the year-round curriculum; special programs include travel-study, experience in research for pre-college students, interdisciplinary study in environmental media, and transitional programs for incoming freshman and transfer students, domestic and international students.

The Assistant Dean advises regarding the contributions of Summer Sessions to the campus's educational mission; has primary responsibility for evaluating programs; oversees uses of Instructional Technology in Summer Sessions, staying current with trends in education and business; and oversees initiatives and the long-term development of online education. Reqs: Qualifications include either an earned doctorate, or an MBA/Master's degree with substantial experience in educational administration and/or the role of technology in education. Academic training, knowledge and experience in pedagogy, teaching methods, and curricula in the higher education setting, including educational research and best practices to improve undergraduate and graduate education; or comparable knowledge through experience in administering academic programs.
