The Changing Landscape of Higher Education

The North American Association of Summer Sessions invites you to attend the Northeastern Regional Conference at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, New York. Plan to network with colleagues and explore new strategies and techniques for developing and marketing Summer Session programming.

Program elements under development include round table and panel discussions covering new innovative marketing ideas, disability accommodations for distance learning, compressed delivery formats, use of digital media, data mining and other topics of interest to summer session professionals.

The conference registration fee is $300 which does not cover the cost of the hotel. The Hotel room rate is $144 plus tax for both single and double rooms.  The deadline to reserve the hotel room is Sunday, March 25th...

The Division of Continuing & Professional Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks a CPE Program Coordinator.

Position Description: Plan, develop, design, organize, implement, administer and evaluate a broad range of University self-sustaining Continuing & Professional Education (CPE) programs that address important personal, professional, and workforce educational needs. Assist in the development of marketing and promotional plans. Provide a vital and functional link between assigned school/colleges and CPE.

The Theresa Neil Memorial Research Fund

The Summer Session Research Consortium, which consists of the North American Association of Summer Sessions (NAASS); the North Central Conference on Summer Schools (NCCSS); the Western Association of Summer Session Administrators (WASSA); and the Association of University Summer Sessions (AUSS), is pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for the Theresa Neil Memorial Research Fund.

Amount of Award
The total available for the year 2012 is $9,000. One or two proposals will be supported from this amount.

Research Topics

  • The Consortium invites proposals that address pedagogical or administrative issues that pertain to summer session at North American colleges and universities. For example:
  • Analysis of summer faculty salary issues
  • Assessment of student needs
  • Effects of administrative reorganization (e.g. centralization/decentralization or change...

Oregon State University welcomes Claire Cross as Director of Summer Session. Claire joined the OSU Summer Session office in early January. As former Director of Summer Session at Southern Oregon University, she brings 20+ years of experience to the position. She also enjoys a long standing history within NAASS, and has served WASSA as Treasurer and President, receiving the WASSA Distinguished Service Award in 2008. We are excited to welcome her to OSU and look forward to the many wonderful opportunities yet to come under her leadership.

Call for Proposals - the North American Association of Summer Sessions invites your proposals for the 49th Annual Conference to be held November 11-14 at the newly-renovated Sheraton Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. John LaBrie, Past President of NAAASS and past interim Executive Secretary, has been appointed Dean of the of College of Professional Studies and Vice President for Professional Education.  John has been serving as Interim Dean since May 2010.

In the announcement, Stephen W. Director, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, wrote, "Since assuming the interim role nearly two years ago, John has overseen the ongoing expansion—in depth and quality—of CPS programs, and has played a continuing and important part in planning for Northeastern’s first regional campuses in Charlotte and Seattle. He is a leader in continuing education whose experience in professional and graduate-program development, online and on-site education, and global collaboration matches the accomplishments and aspirations of the college."
