Position Avail - UCSB Director of Summer Sessions

Posted By Maurine K. Powell, Thursday, November 10, 2016

Position Opening - Univ. of California, Santa Barbara

The Director of Summer Sessions is responsible for managing administrative services and general operations of Summer Sessions at UCSB. Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to the Associate Director, Business & Finance Manager, Senior Analyst, Summer Start Programs Director, and Research Mentorship Program & Science Camp Director. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources including summer programs, budgets, marketing, and personnel. Works directly with deans, administrators, faculty, campus administrators, Academic Senate, and the broader community. Makes decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives.

Summer Sessions is the principal unit coordinating the academic coursework in the summer along with special programs and events. In its support of the campus academic and research mission, Summer Sessions works in collaboration with other campus units performing, broadly, three roles. First, it provides a range of fiscal management of income generated by summer fees, delivers enrollment and financial analysis, revenue-sharing and annual department provision reports and recommendations to senior campus officials. Second, it supplies reports to the colleges and academic departments to assist in their summer curriculum planning, processes all summer academic appointments and payroll, and collaborates with departments and faculty in the development and delivery of innovative academic and research-based summer courses and programs. Finally, it operates as a department in creating and executing special programs for both high school and incoming UCSB students, mentoring programs for Teaching Associates, cultural and enrichment experiences for the campus, and, in cooperation with appropriate campus entities, in crafting initiatives that explore new approaches to instruction in summer.
