Nominations for 2004

TO: All Institutional Representatives of NAASS
FROM: James L. Murphy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
            Chair, Nominations and Elections Committee
SUBJ: Nominations for 2004

The nominations and elections committee of NAASS welcomes your input for two types of nominations-leadership positions and awards. The ballot may be obtained at the bottom of this page. You may also ignore the form and email me your specific suggestions for one or more of the positions. The eventual slate of candidates will be determined based on your nomination responses. I trust you will participate and make our job easy.

1. Leadership positions to be filled this year include a new President-Elect (a three-year commitment that progresses through the offices of president and past president). One At-Large Member of the Administrative Council, and Vice Presidents of the Middle States, North Central, and Western Regions will be elected (two year terms). Two of the three current regional vice presidents (Karen Heikel, North Central, and Gary Penders, Western) are eligible for a second term.
You may nominate any member you believe to be qualified for any and all offices and more than one member for the same office. All Institutional Representatives vote for the President-Elect and the At-Large Member; but only the respective regional constituents vote for the Regional Vice Presidents. NOTE: Nominees for Regional Vice President must reside in the region for which they are nominated.

2. Nominations are also solicited for two awards. Each of these is given only when an outstanding case is presented. To be eligible for an Honorary Life Member of NAASS, the individual must have (a) been active in summer session management for at least 10 years, (b) been retired from summer session activity for at least two years, and (3) have consistently provided outstanding service to NAASS.
To be eligible for the new Distinguished Service Award, the individual must (a) be a current member of NAASS and have held that membership for at least five years, (b) have performed service over an extended period of time within NAASS (and possibly other Summer Session associations) in ways that have been widely recognized for their benefit to other Summer Session administrators and members of NAASS or to the recognition of the role of Summer Sessions in higher education, and (c) have exhibited significant leadership and performance in their administrative roles in their own institutions and have developed or maintained a successful Summer Session program.

A statement that specifies the reasons for the nomination should accompany a nomination for any award. It should also provide the names of at least two additional persons who may be asked to provide supporting statements or documentation.

NOTE: Members currently serving as officers of NAASS are not eligible for nomination, and nominations from subordinates on behalf of a superior in their own institution will not be accepted.

The nomination ballot is available as an Adobe pdf file that you can complete and mail or fax back, and as a Word document that you can edit, save on your own computer, and then attach to an email to: James Murphy (Chair of Nominations & Elections Committee: murphyj@email.unc.edu).
