Creative & Innovative Awards (2007)

Each year NAASS recognizes innovative and creative summer programs offered by member schools. Through these awards, NAASS seeks to highlight the importance of curriculum development, give credit to summer school administrators who make outstanding contributions to the operation/management of summer session and help NAASS members learn from each other.

Awards are presented at the Annual Conference in November and are made in three categories:

  1. Credit: The credit category includes courses for which students earn college-level credit hours that apply toward a degree.
  2. Non-Credit: All other courses are categorized as noncredit, even though "credit" may be earned toward teacher CEUs, a high school diploma, etc.
  3. Administrative: The administrative category is for innovative strategies and ideas in planning, financing, marketing, reporting, administrative structure, public relations, student services and other similar areas engaged in by the summer session leadership and staff.
The programs are judged on the following criteria: creativity; uniqueness; benefit to students, your institution and/or community, etc.; and adaptability to other institutions. You may submit more than one program in a single category. However, you may not submit a program for consideration in more than one category.

Note: This year two awards will be granted in each category based on the size of the institution. Institutions with an acaemic year enrollment of less than 7,500 will fall into the small school category, while those with more than 7,500 wil fall into the large school category.

You may submit one additional written material (i.e., brochure, flyer, etc.) along with the nomination forms which will be distributed to committee members. No CD's, videotapes or other forms of multi-media will be accepted. The additional written material will not be part of the evaluation process. Rather it will provide committee members with a better understanding of the program.

The Poster Session presentations for the Creative and Innovative Programs (at the NAASS Conference in Maui) are scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2007 from 8:45 to 10:15 a.m. During this session, the finalists in each category will give short prepared presentations about their creative and innovative programs. The awards will be presented at the banquet Tuesday evening.
